California... I am in you... almost

It's finally happening California friends! I'm doing a book signing in your great state of beaches and shifty shops in Venice where I can get a super cute skirt for $10!

As some of you know I grew up in California, so I'm quite excited to be doing a book signing where all my childhood friends just happen to live :)

And the great part is, this book signing is actually part of the California Utah Women's Conference at the Disneyland Hotel! So you can mosey on through the convention (which is free to get into!), see some really cute booths, talk to me because I'll have bookmarks and candy and thrilling conversation, then head over to Disneyland and be happy in the happiest place on earth!

I'd call that a win win.

Oh and I'll have paperbacks of ALL of my books :)

But really, I'm excited to finally be doing a book signing in CA, and it's going to be a blast!

Yep, you read that right, a BLAST!

So come see me!

The convention is on October 19, 2013 from 8:00AM to Noon at The Disneyland Hotel!

Fight For You Blog Tour!

I feel so special to be able to take part in Misty's blog tour! This girl is so sweet and such an awesome author! So come check out her latest book and prepare to be amazed!

Keturah fought her way into the army, but now she's in Judea building fortifications, and the only thing she's fought so far is boredom. The work is hard, and the other soldiers don't think she can pull her weight. Her brothers are becoming strangers, and Zeke's jealousy is getting worse - because Keturah is falling in love with the wrong warrior.

But she's not about to let cruel pranks and hurt feelings keep her from doing what she knows to be right. She completes every order with faithfulness - a hasty retreat from the Lamanite army, a spy mission into the enemy stronghold, a midnight assassination. From burying the dead to whiling away hours on guard duty, Keturah will do whatever it takes to protect her religion, her freedom, her peace, and her family.

But in a camp of two thousand boys, the most important thing she has to protect is her heart.

Fight For You is the second novel in Misty Moncur's Stripling Warrior series. Fall in love with these romantic novels set against a vivid Book of Mormon backdrop.

Misty Moncur wanted to be Indiana Jones when she grew up. Instead, she became an author and has her adventures at home. In her jammies. With her imagination. And pens that she keeps running dry.

Misty lives in a marsh near a very salty lake in Utah with her husband and children, where they cuddle up in the evenings and read their Kindles. Well, she does anyway.

Pick a side, any side.

It's that time guys.

You knew it would happen eventually.

I want to know what team you're on.

I'm sure a lot of you haven't finished reading "Sugar Coated" yet... I mean, fine, it's only been out a week... still, for those of you who have read it, I want to know if you're Team Ty or Team Jonah.

Romance isn't exactly a central focus in "Sugar Coated" like pretty much every other book I write, but I do love me a good love triangle, so I couldn't resist putting one in there. And that's not a spoiler... you can figure that out from reading the back of the book... so stop looking at me with those spoiler-y eyes!

That being said, no spoilers in your answer! I just want to know who you'd pick... you know... if you had to. Like if some crazy author was pestering you about who you like more and she wrote a blog post forcing you to decide.

The choice is yours :)

Until next time,

Shannen

Upcoming events!

Hello my lovely friends!

Basically, release day for "Sugar Coated" was chaotic, crazy, amazing, madness and I loved every second of it!

Yes, even the second where my internet went out during the launch party and I was supposed to be posting a game.

Okay, maybe I didn't like that second very much in the moment... I might have yelled at my modem and threatened to throw it out the window... but looking back on it now it's kind of funny. So that's what matters, right?

I have to give a giant, enormous (aka ginormous) thank you to everyone who helped me! EVERYONE! Thank YOU for buying the book and supporting me, thank you to my publisher who helped make launch day so amazing, thank you to my hosts who helped with the launch party and made it such a blast... just thank you to everyone :)

Sugar Coated ended up reaching #27 in ranking on Amazon in its category! How epic is that? Never in a million years did I think that would happen! I'm so amazingly happy, so thank you THANK YOU for making that happen!

Annnnnd should you feel inclined to continue spreading the word about Sugar Coated, here's a handy little graphic for you to use.

So, now that the book is out, it's time for events!!!

First up, I've got a book signing at Barnes and Noble in West Jordan on September 28th from 5:00-8:00PM. So if you're looking to get a paperback of Sugar Coated, that's the place to do it! We'll have bookmarks, and candy, and FUN! So come see me! Here's the address:

Jordan Landing Barnes and Noble
7157 Plaza Center Drive
West Jordan, UT 84084
801-282-1324

Next, I'll be attending the California Utah Women's Conference this year at the Disneyland Hotel! I'll have a booth with all of my books in paperback! Finally, a book signing for my California friends! So come see me! I can't wait to chat and catch up with everyone! Plus I'm going to try to make my books all cutesy and ribbony... since the women there might throw me out if I don't put ribbons on everything I'm selling.  It's going to be a ton of fun! Plus there will be a bunch of fun booths to check out, and you'll be right by Disneyland... so I don't really see how it can be much better :)

Here's the CUW website in case you want to learn a bit more about the conference!

Hope to see you guys at some of these fun events! I'll keep you posted as more come up!

It's Launch Day!!!!

So, some of you may be excited today, because you know this is the day I finally leave you alone about “Sugar Coated”… sort of… but hopefully most of you are excited because today is the day that…

*Drum Roll*

Sugar Coated is out!!!!!

Yep! “Sugar Coated” is out today on Kindle! So go snag your copy, eat a few sugar cubes, and enjoy the book!

And then tell me what you think and whose “team” you’re on…. Because I’m always curious :)

Oh and I know I’ve said this a million times, but head on over to the Facebook launch party today! We’ll have games, prizes, and all sorts of fun “Sugar Coated” related things going on!

Now, since this is tradition, I’ve made an awkward video blog for you to watch, because I just can’t help myself! And, keeping with tradition, it’s really blurry, and hard to hear, and embarrassing. So enjoy!

But seriously, I hope you guys really like the book because I LOVED writing it and I’ve been dying to share it with you for so long!

Also, thank you so much for all of your support over the years! It means the world to me :) I’ve loved getting to know readers, writers, and book bloggers! The writing world has the BEST people ever and I’m honored to know all of you!

And of course, I have to give a shout out to my AMAZING publisher CHBB. SJ Davis, the owner, is an angel. I'm not even joking. NEVER have I run across a publisher who keeps in daily contact with their authors. Not just about numbers, or book sales, or what the author needs to be doing differently. Nope. CHBB talks to me about how my new apartment is and just the most random stuff. I really don't feel like I was signed to a publishing company. I feel like I got a group of new friends... yep... as cheesy as it sounds... that's just the truth. They took a chance on "Sugar Coated" and when they decided to sign it they didn't just say "We'd like to extend an offer of publication". They said "We love this! We believe in this! We want to publish it!" I know this might be random for this post, but I just have to tell them how much I love them!

Anyway,

Hope you enjoy “Sugar Coated”!

Until next time,

Shannen

"Sugar Coated" countdown blog #3

Oh.

My.

Goodness.

We only have four more days until "Sugar Coated" comes out on Kindle! It'll be coming out in paperback a week after that, but I have this awesome idea... okay it's not that original, but still... let's try to get "Sugar Coated" ranking in the Amazon kindle store on launch day! How amazing would it be to rank on release day?

Okay, okay, I'm going to stop being giddy about sharing this story with you guys.

But really... I think you're going to like it :)

Oh and thank you SO much to everyone who stopped by during the Blog Tour! It was so amazingly fun and I loved getting to talk to some amazing authors, readers, and book bloggers! And a HUGE thank you to everone who hosted me on their blogs and the aca-incredible (yeah... "Pitch Perfect" reference) authors who donated e-books to the giveaway!

If you didn't win an e-book, there's still a chance to win some, along with some amazing prizes over at the "Sugar Coated" Facebook launch party! Go join the event here!

Now, for the excerpt from "Sugar Coated" that I promised you guys :)

Here's the very beginning of the book. Tell me if it's enough to get you hooked! I'll be posting more at the launch party!

Blinding white lights flashed into life, revealing a room less cavernous and imposing than she had expected. Instead, the room with the white walls, ceilings, and floor was quite small; small enough for her to run from one end to the other without ever breaking a sweat. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust and once they did, she still couldn’t be sure of what she was seeing. There seemed to be a complete lack of color in this small room, as if it had been drained right before her arrival and was shining more brightly because of its recent purge.

Brynn blinked her eyes a few more times, trying to clear the spots that sprang into existence when the less-than-subtle lights had ignited. Now that she had a proper hold on her surroundings, she could see the impossibility of the room. There were no windows. There were no doors. There was no way in or out. So how had she gotten there?

“We apologize for any inconvenience your death may cause you at this time,” said a smooth, soothing female voice over what Brynn could only describe as a loudspeaker. If the woman’s voice hadn’t been so calm and collected, it may have taken her less time to understand exactly what she was saying before the sickly sweet smell of sugar hit her nose; like cookies right out of the oven.

This wasn’t just a room. It was a death chamber.

“We appreciate your cooperation and would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the best thing to do in this situation is enjoy this smell, generated for your pleasure,” the voice told her, never losing that deep, rich timbre.

Brynn thought that if she hadn’t been in an obviously dire situation, she would have loved nothing more than to listen to the beautiful voice and smell the sweet sugar all day long. But as it turned out, there wasn’t much time left in her day right at that moment.

Listening to the woman’s instructions against her better judgment, Brynn took one deep breath, enjoying the smell of the unnaturally rich sugar before her cheek made contact with the hard white floor with a sickening thud.
